Get Involved

  1. Success of our users is the ultimate goal.

We are here for one reason: to provide for our users. If we don't meet this goal, then we're wasting our time.

  2. Research, do not guess.

Do not assume we know what's best for readers; instead, conduct research to focus our writing, design and infrastructure.

  3. Satisfy our target audience's diverse needs.

Offer our material in several formats to meet individual needs based on local infrastructure, finances, level of interest, language and possible visual impairment.

  4. Assume minimal prior knowledge.

Help new Ubuntu users achieve their goals without focusing on irrelevant or unnecessarily complicated details.

  5. Maintain impeccable standards.

Maintain the highest standards in all of our work and never settle for less.

  6. Collaborate with others and share our work.

    Be friendly, inviting and respectful.

Whenever possible, collaborate both with other projects that share our mission and with other people to assist our project. Communicate with target audiences and value their opinions and feedback. Do everything we can to make our work, tools and products available for others to use.

  7. Encourage creativity.

Foster valuable ideas and contributions from everyone involved in the project. Encourage contributors, and work with them to develop their ideas, rather than turn them away.

  8. Continually develop our infrastructure and processes.

Select tools wisely. Improve tools while we use them, and create new ones, if advantageous. Don't get stuck in our ways; never be reluctant to change.

  9. Just get it done.

If something isn't there, then create it; if an opportunity arises, commit to it. Value concrete implementation over abstract ideas.

  10. Communicate with one another.

Communication is key in any globally distributed team. Hold regular meetings, make available communication tools like mailing lists and chat rooms.
